Goethe-Zertifikat C1 Scoring Guide
How scores are calculated, what they mean, and how to reach your goal score.
Scoring Overview
Each section is scored 0–100. You need 60+ in each section AND 60+ overall. Certificates are permanent. German DSH test (at universities) is different but Goethe C1 is often accepted in lieu.

Study Tips
- 1.Download the official Goethe-Institut Modelltest C1 — the exam format is very consistent.
- 2.Konjunktiv II is tested extensively — master würde/wäre/hätte and indirect speech forms.
- 3.Build a vocabulary list of formal connectors: nichtsdestotrotz, wenngleich, infolgedessen, gleichwohl.
- 4.Listening: watch ZDF heute journal or Deutsche Welle Nachrichten — formal broadcast German.
- 5.Writing: practice nominalization — das Ergreifen von Maßnahmen instead of Maßnahmen ergreifen.
- 6.Grammar drilling: adjective endings, two-way prepositions, and Passiv constructions should be automatic.
