Do I need a sponsor to take the SIE?
No — the SIE is open to anyone 18+. Firm sponsorship is required only for top-off exams (Series 7, etc.).
How long is the SIE valid?
4 years from passing, giving you time to find a sponsoring firm and take the top-off exam.
Which top-off exam should I take with the SIE?
Series 7 for general securities, Series 6 for mutual funds/annuities, Series 79 for investment banking.
How much should I study?
Most candidates pass with 40–60 hours of focused study over 2–4 weeks.
Can I take the SIE online?
No — it must be taken at a Prometric testing center.
