PSAT Scoring Guide
How scores are calculated, what they mean, and how to reach your goal score.
Scoring Overview
PSAT scoring mirrors the digital SAT: two section scores (R&W and Math) each 160โ760, totaling 320โ1520. The test is section-adaptive: your performance on the first R&W or Math module determines the difficulty of the second. The PSAT Selection Index (used for National Merit) is 2 ร (R&W + Math_subscore_1-38)/10. The 99th percentile cutoff varies by state but typically falls around a Selection Index of 210+.
