PSAT Writing Guide
Task types, scoring criteria, and strategies to excel in the writing section.
Writing Overview
The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital, adaptive test given in October to 10th and 11th graders. The 11th-grade version qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship program. It uses the same digital Bluebook platform and the same question styles as the SAT but is shorter and scored on a 1520 scale instead of 1600.
Note: PSAT does not have a dedicated writing section. This guide covers general test preparation.
