FSP (Fachsprachprüfung) FAQ

The most common questions about the exam — answered clearly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FSP the same in all German states?

No — each Bundesland's Ärztekammer has its own format and examiners. Bavaria (Bayern) and NRW are particularly common. Check your specific state's requirements.

What German level do I need before the FSP?

General German B2 certificate (TestDaF, Goethe, or Telc) is required before you can register for the FSP. Medical vocabulary is on top of that.

How do I prepare for the FSP?

Practice history-taking with a partner, write 5–10 Arztbriefe from clinical scenarios, and study medical German vocabulary systematically.

How many times can I retake the FSP?

Typically 3 attempts allowed. After a third failure, additional German language training is required.

Are there prep courses?

Yes — several providers offer FSP preparation: Medideutsch, Arzt-Deutsch, and many hospital orientation programs include FSP prep.
